Here is a little about the book...
-A Life Nobody Should Have To Live- By: Martin Golden
|
Martin Golden was born in a small
farm town in Georgia. His father was a
minister who led a double life, which
set the pattern for Martin's later
difficulties in the world, difficulties
compounded by the fact that Martin
was a sensitive black man at a time
when racial segregation and hatred in
the South were beginning to break
down.
A Life Nobody Should Have To Live
concerns Martin's often frustrating
attempts to come to terms with his
past, with his sexual and emotional
needs, and with the changing shape of
race relations brought on by the civil
rights movement of the 1960's.
It is the inspiring true story of a
young man who, against all odds, built
a lifetime of achievement for
himself-First in the army, later working
for various retail stores in Florida and
Georgia, and then as a black
entrepreneur.
Above all, it is the story of Martin's
attempts to find happiness and
fulfillment with various women he
encountered-the black women and
white women who were attracted to
him, who gave birth to his children, and
who attempted to use him for their own
(often selfish) ends.
Not that Martin himself was
blameless. In his frank confession, he
admits to the mistakes he made in his
behavior, mistakes that brought about
much emotional turmoil, and that finally
led Martin to put his trust in a higher
power.
It is the story of one mans struggle
to put his soul in order, and find peace
and contentment that all seek and few
achieve. A Life Nobody Should Have
To Live is also the dramatic and
explosive story of the coming of age of
a black man. Martin Golden asks the
urgent and timely question of whether
blacks and minorities have to retain
the inhumane and unequal form of
second-class citizenship inherited from
their ancestors. Recommended for its
heartfelt story of one mans triumph
over the monumental obstacles that
stood in the way and for its inspiring
testimony to durability and
determination
